Knott's Berry Farm Update: End of Summer Edition

Cheers, folks!   Now that Labor Day has come and gone, we're moving into the fall season, which means Scary Farm and the spookiest and best time of the year.  Yesterday, I stopped by the Farm to check out this year's finale of Ghost Town Alive!, but I also took a quick jaunt around the park to look at a few things that have happened in the past month or so.  We'll be back at Knott's later this week, but for now...

Boardwalk BBQ

Last month, the Boardwalk BBQ finally opened, after this year's early winter rains put it into a construction schedule hole.  The design is whimsically '50s kitsch, with a colorful facade and stylized aesthetic.  The interiors are pretty utilitarian, and the dining is all outdoors under a covered area across from Xcelerator (which is currently under refurbishment).  All in all, it's a nice offering for the park, but nothing spectacular.

Here it is, the completed Boardwalk BBQ.

They tore down a burger quick serve to put in a BBQ quick serve, which makes sense, since they have two burger places in Boardwalk already (although there are a couple BBQ places in Ghost Town too).

The building certainly looks groovy.

Inside, it's just a queue and line serving station.

I got the tri-tip.  The meat was average--not stringy or hard but not exactly super tender either, but it went well with the BBQ sauces supplied at the condiments station outside.  I had the spicy BBQ and boysenberry BBQ, which were tasty.  And the roasted potatoes and coleslaw were tasty.

Calico Stage

Over by Calico Square, they've started construction on the stage for The Hanging show that will play throughout Knott's Scary Farm.  This year's Hanging is called "The Hanging: Fake Noose."  Will they actually get politically bold?  We'll see.  Hopefully, the show is more tightly organized than last year's wandering journey of a show.

The Log Ride

As was reported from the Knott's Scary Farm Announcement Event, this fall, The Log Ride will receive a Halloween overlay that will function day and night, as a Halloween Hootenanny takes over this classic attraction.  The ride will be kid friendly, though there will be talent at night, and it looks like an adorable overlay for the season!

Log Ride will be going down over the next few weeks to get its Haunt overlay.

Hangtime Construction

Finally, lets take a quick look at construction on Hangtime, coming to the park next year.  The ride is still currently in the grading phase, which means it's all just a bunch of dirt.  But once steel goes up, things should progress relatively quickly.

Work walls have been up for a while, ever since they knocked down Boomerang and cleared the resting place of Riptide.

Just earlier this spring, this was the customary angle for Boomerang.

In case you forgot about the announcements, this is what's coming to Knott's.  That first bragging point will be a thing... for like a year...

Lakeside cafeteria is still open to employees.

The ground is mostly cleared.  They'll need to start digging trenches and holes for foundations at some point in the relative near future.

But by next year, you'll see some coaster track in this view!
